Course Overview
This lesson introduces students to the fundamentals of operating systems, a core area in computer science and a vital component of the GCE A/L ICT syllabus. Students will explore the structure, types, and functions of operating systems, including key concepts such as process management, memory management, file systems, and user interfaces. The course also highlights the role of operating systems in managing hardware and software resources and providing services for application programs.
Through practical examples, comparisons between popular operating systems (such as Windows, Linux, and macOS), and real-world scenarios, students will gain a solid understanding of how operating systems function as intermediaries between users and computer hardware. The lesson also aims to develop critical thinking by encouraging students to analyze how OS-level decisions impact performance, security, and usability.
